I’m a Tattoo Addict – The Most Painful and Least Painful Places to Get Ink Might Surprise You
I’ll be honest—I didn’t plan to become a tattoo addict. But here I am, with over a dozen tattoos scattered across my body, each telling a story, capturing a moment, or symbolizing a piece of who I am. Along the way, I’ve learned something most people don’t talk about enough: not all tattoo pain is created equal.
Let’s start with the most painful spot. For me, it was hands down (pun intended) my ribs. I went in feeling brave, but once that needle hit bone, I realized I had underestimated the sting. The ribs are super bony with very little fat to cushion the blow, and every breath made it feel ten times worse. If you’re thinking of getting inked there—brace yourself. Deep breaths, music, and a snack beforehand saved me from tapping out.
Now, the least painful? Believe it or not, my forearm. It felt more like a cat scratch or buzzing vibration. I actually found it oddly relaxing—so much so that I held a full-on conversation with my artist during the entire session. If you’re new to tattoos, this is the perfect place to start.
Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, of course. But if you’re planning your first piece or your fifteenth, knowing where to expect a little extra ouch can make a big difference.
At the end of the day, every bit of discomfort was totally worth it for the art I now carry with me. And yes—I’m already planning the next one. Once you get a taste of ink, it’s hard not to crave more. Trust me, I’ve been there.
