Updated NCAA betting odds still show Gonzaga as favorites

As of the time of writing, we have already entered the Sweet Sixteen stage of the NCAA Division I tournament, where we have already been able to witness a number of huge shocks take place thus far!

Of course, those of us who continue to watch the competition regularly each year when March Madness takes place will not have been surprised by the fact there have been a number of major surprises already, but some of them were certainly eyebrow-raising when you took into account the strength of those going out.

First Round shocks followed by Second Round upsets

It had all started in the First Round of the tournament as we saw the likes of No 6. CO State got dumped out by No. 11 Michigan; No. 12 Richmond defeated No. 5 Iowa; No 12. NM State beat No. 5 Connecticut; No. 6 LSU beat No. 11 Iowa State and No. 6 Alabama defeated by No. 11 Notre Dame, however none in the First Round of the competition were perhaps as shocking as No. 2 Kentucky’s elimination to No. 15 Saint Peter’s.

The surprises did not end there, though, as last year’s NCAA Division I Champions and No. 1 seed Baylor were defeated by No. 8 UNC in the Second Round, thus ensuring that we will see a new champion crowned this year! Additionally, No. 3 Tennessee was eliminated by No. 11 Michigan as they continued to add to their impressive list of teams that they have managed to overcome during March Madness.

No. 2 Auburn was defeated by No. 10 Miami FL, whilst No. 3. Wisconsin was sent home after being beaten by No. 11 Iowa State; another team who is enjoying an impressive campaign.

As noted, we will have a new NCAA Division I Tournament champion this year, which will have made the competition even more exciting and enjoyable to watch, especially for those who use this Arizona sports betting site as the college basketball team that represents the state are considered to be one of the main favorites of winning the competition this season!

Gonzaga continues to remain favorites

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Gonzaga Bulldogs continue to remain the outright favorites to win this year’s March Madness, with many having backed the college basketball program to pick up the title after a couple of solid years on the court.

Of course, the team was runners-up in last year’s edition as they were beaten by Baylor in the National Championship Game, but with the winners having been ousted in the Second Round this year, the Bulldogs will feel that they have a strong shot of finally avenging that defeat from a year ago.

Kansas continues to be in the hunt, as do Arizona as we mentioned, however the odds are relatively long in comparison to what is being offered for Gonzaga, but as we have seen already in this season’s competition, shocks can happen at any stage.

Ranked No. 1, the Bulldogs will need to overcome No. 4 Arkansas if they are to progress and advance to the Elite Eight, with their opponents having been consistently strong in recent performances. Nonetheless, many are not expecting the top team and this year’s betting favorites to slip up in their pursuit of the NCAA Division I Tournament title.
