NY Attorney General Letitia James says her “sole focus” is helping Kamala Harris defeat Donald Trump
New York Attorney General Letitia James said her “sole focus” is on helping Vice President Kamala Harris defeat Donald Trump in the election – just months after she successfully prosecuted the former president for a controversial $454 million fraud verdict.
James, who has long denied a personal feud with Trump, called the Republican presidential candidate an “existential threat” as she voiced her fervent support for Harris during an appearance on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut” late Tuesday.
“My focus right now is securing the nomination of Vice President Harris and then ultimately getting her into office,” the attorney general told host Joy Reid after President Biden canceled his 2024 re-election campaign.
“That is my sole focus right now and I will continue to stand up for the rule of law and represent the citizens of the great state of New York as we do every day.”
When asked if she hoped Harris would appoint her as her attorney general if she won the White House, James stressed that her only focus was that.
Elsewhere in the interview, James let up and continued to lash out at Trump – who has repeatedly accused her of conducting a witch hunt against him – and issued a rallying cry for Americans to vote against him.
“He doesn’t care about the rule of law, he doesn’t care about the interests of the working class in this country, he doesn’t care about uniting us. He only cares about how he can benefit himself and his family,” the attorney general argued.
“And that’s why we all, all of us, must go out and vote with quiet dignity. There is so much at stake, it really is critical that every single person understands that they pose an existential threat to everything we believe in,” she continued.
“That’s why we must stand together and elect Vice President Harris.”
James insisted that Harris was in the “best position” to attack her Republican opponent, claiming that Republicans were “terrified” at the prospect of running against her.
“The reality is that Kamala Harris, Vice President Harris, is qualified and often underestimated, but she is an overachiever,” James gushed.
“And that’s why I supported her wholeheartedly. It’s unfortunate that individuals only reinforce racism and sexism, and that’s completely inappropriate. And I’m not going to dignify it with a response.”
James’ attack on the former commander in chief came after she won her civil fraud case against him in February, accusing Trump of inflating his wealth by billions to deceive banks and investors into helping him expand his real estate empire.
The 45th president, who is currently appealing the ruling that banned her from doing business in the Big Apple for three years, has long accused James of launching a political “witch hunt” after her office first filed charges against him in 2020.
After the verdict, Trump went one step further, sharply describing the decision as “election interference” and claiming that the justice system had been turned into a “weapon against a political opponent.”
James, for her part, denied having a “personal feud” against him.
At some point, however, the attorney general began trolling Trump on social media by posting a daily breakdown of the interest he may now owe while the appeals process dragged on.
