George RR Martin reveals several Game of Thrones shows are in development
Creator George RR Martin has revealed that there are currently nearly 10 different Game of Thrones TV shows in development.
Although Game of Thrones ended its final season with more disappointment than success, its spin-off series, House of the Dragon, has restored faith in the franchise for many fans.
Thanks to the success of House of the Dragon, a prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has been announced as being in the works.
The scope of the Game of Thrones universe is much larger than fans might think, considering how creator George RR Martin plans to expand the GoT uniserve. At least seven shows are in development in addition to the two prequel series currently airing.
The seven Game of Thrones projects currently in the works include three live-action shows and four animated shows.
According to Westeros , the author talked about the upcoming spinoffs during a lecture at Oxford Writers’ House.
While Martin didn’t reveal specific details about the shows’ plots, the source posted a theory about four of the seven projects.
The live-action shows could focus on Aegon the Conqueror and the Ten Thousand Ships, while the animated shows could introduce The Golden Empire and the Sea Snake.
While the idea of exploring more Game of Thrones lore through different avenues is exciting, it’s unclear how many of these concepts will actually come to fruition.
Fans were excited to see a Jon Snow-led spinoff after Season 8 ended, and the show even filmed a pilot episode. However, the show never got off the ground.
Martin himself has been candid about how animated shows have been shelved and relegated to the shelf multiple times in just the past eight months.
Despite seeing many Game of Thrones spin-off projects being canceled, the growing popularity of House of the Dragon almost guarantees that at least one of them will be made.
