Eminem Releases a New Single That References Megan Thee Stallion
Eminem has revealed the “lead single from his upcoming 12th album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce),” which is set for a summer release. The song opens with a familiar Eminem motif, including a voicemail from longtime manager Paul Rosenberg expressing his disdain for the new album. Rosenberg says, “Hey Em, it’s Paul. I’m listening to the album… Good luck, you’re on your own.” “Houdini” recalls his 2002 hit “Without Me” with its catchy chorus, “Guess who’s back, back again/Shady’s back, tell a friend.” Produced by Eminem and Luis Resto, the song includes a nod to Steve Miller Band’s “Abracadabra” in the chorus and references Megan Thee Stallion’s shooting, with Eminem rapping, “
If I asked Megan Thee Stallion if she would collaborate with me. Do I really have a chance at success? I don’t know, but I’m glad to be back.” True to form, Eminem stirred controversy with lyrics that referenced transgenderism, RuPaul, and calling his kids “brats.” He raps, “Cancel me, what? Okay, that’s it, go ahead Paul, walk away / Snake motherfucker, cross-dresser, fake motherfucker / And I might get fucked for it (see) / But in reality, y’all can suck my cock, fuck them / Fuck Dre, fuck Jimmy, fuck you, fuck you / Fuck my kids, they’re brats (fuck) / They can destroy, them and all of you (yeah) / Me too, Paul, got two balls, big like RuPaul.” The music video for “Houdini” pays direct homage to “Without Me,” with Eminem entering a portal back to 2002.

Shot in comic book style, the video features cameos from 50 Cent, Pete Davidson, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, The Alchemist, and features two versions of Eminem — one from 2002 and one from the present day — performing “Houdini.” Details about “The Death of Slim Shady” has become scarce since its release last month. In March, Dr. Dre confirmed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” that Eminem was working on a new project and mentioned that he had contributed to some of the songs. He was scheduled to listen to the album the day after his TV appearance.
During the NFL Draft in April, Eminem teased “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grace)” with a promo for the crime show Detroit Murder Files, implying the end of his alter ego. A fake obituary for Slim Shady recently appeared in the Detroit Free Press. Earlier this week, Eminem revealed “Houdini” as the lead single via Instagram Reel with magician David Blaine, saying, “For my last trick, I’m gonna make my career disappear.”
