One of House of the Dragon’s best characters is missing from S2 – and it’s not Daemon
Even though House of the Dragon season 2 is coming to an end this Sunday, fans have noticed that there’s one character who’s been getting very little screen time.
And no, they’re not referring to the time Daemon wasted wandering the haunted halls of Harrenhal. (Although, technically, that’s also a reason for a character missing.) Instead, House of the Dragon viewers are wondering why they haven’t seen much of the charismatic Corlys Velaryon.
As the Master of Driftmark, Corlys was expected to play a larger role in the Targaryen Civil War after siding with Team Black. However, despite appearing in nearly every episode of House of the Dragon season 2, many fans can’t understand why the show hasn’t used him as much.
Corlys spent most of Season 2 walking around the shipyards at Gullet, where they had set up a blockade to King’s Landing. He rarely did anything more than have brief conversations with Rhaenys, Addam, and Alyn of Hull.
“Where has he been all season?” one Redditor asked, and many others chimed in, saying things like, “Oh, you know, hanging around the docks, supervising the docks.”
“He’s been rebuilding the same damn ship and having the same damn conversations all the time. The man also got over his wife’s death pretty quickly lol,” one user said.
Another added, “Oh no, my wife died! Anyway, time to go back to the shipyard for my weekly scene. This guy is the Hand of the Queen and hasn’t spoken to Rhaenyra once.”
“Honestly, he’s like an NPC you’ve never interacted with. So he’s just stuck in a time loop working on his ship until you give him the right prompt,” another pointed out.
Others added: “He had to check his ship was ready for the 78th time this season.” And: “There wasn’t a single scene where he was captain, which was disappointing.”
“Talked to Alyn about 50 times,” said another. “Seriously, it’s amazing how unsatisfying the conversations have been this season with some big exceptions. You’d think Corlys and Addam would be interesting considering Addam’s claim to Seasmoke. But it’s just awkward looks, ‘I give up’ and ‘well done’.”
