‘Houdini‘ Is the First Single From the Rapper’s Upcoming Album ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)’

Slim Shady is back to his old ways with his latest song ‘Houdini’.

On Friday, May 23, Eminem released the first single “Houdini” from his upcoming album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). In the track, Eminem channeled some nostalgia for 2002’s ‘Without Me’ — and delivered some notable criticism.

In the first verse, Eminem, 51, takes aim at Megan Thee Stallion as he raps: “If I asked Megan Thee/Stallion if she would collab with me/Would I really make it/I don’t know but I’m glad to be back.”

With this, he may be referring to Megan being shot in the leg by Tory Lanez — who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for that act — in 2020.

In the third verse, after pondering “what would the old me say (if) if he could see the road as it is today,” he jokingly tells some people, including himself, to “fuck it.” .”

“You all can suck my c—, the fact is f— them, f— [Dr.] Dre, f— Jimmy, f— me, f— you, f— my kids they’re all spoiled brats.”

“They can screw it up, they and all of you, Paul too, have two balls, as big as RuPaul’s balls, what you think you see is not what you see,” he continued.

Eminem released a music video to accompany the song on Friday, and it includes several references to his 2002 video for “Without Me.”

In the video, Eminem receives a call from Dre revealing that a portal to 2002 has opened in the city, meaning a younger version of himself has arrived in 2024.

With a comic book-style look, the rapper’s current and younger versions appear on screen together. Eminem even brings back the superhero suit he wore in the previous video as he raps about his younger self.

“Abra-abracadabra (And with my last trick)/I’m about to reach in my pocket, baby (Like that)/Abra-abracadabra (And with my last trick, boom)/That’s it and I back, man,” he raps during the song’s chorus.

The video features 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, comedian Shane Gillis, Pete Davidson and his three children, Hailie Jade, 28, Alaina, 31, and Stevie, 22.

Days before its release, Eminem released a video featuring magician David Blaine, in which he enlists the magician’s help.

“What I’m wondering is, how far can we go with this magic trick? Like, can we do a stunt or something?” he said in the video. “Well, my last trick, I’m going to make my career disappear.”

The upcoming album will revolve around the death of his longtime alter ego Slim Shady, who he first introduced on the 1997 Slim Shady EP — and released The Slim Shady LP two years later.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, a fake obituary for Slim Shady appeared in Eminem’s hometown paper, the Detroit Free Press.

The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace) will mark the rapper’s first album since 2020’s Music to Be Murdered By.
