The US Team’s Chances In The 2022 World Cup
The United States is one of the biggest proponents of sport in the world. From basketball to baseball, to golf, and other Olympic events such as swimming, boxing, diving, and tennis, they are an undeniable powerhouse of the sporting world bar none. When it comes to soccer, however, they are not known as the cream of the crop.
Back in 1930 when the tournament was first played, they did manage to get to the semi-finals, but, unfortunately, lost to Argentina 6-1. For several decades they did not even qualify to play in the event but eventually got to the quarter-finals in 2002 and played again in South Korea but were again knocked out by Germany 1-0. As a result, the US is not considered a major contender in the soccer world. Although it is not recognized as a major sport in the country, it is far from unpopular. The diversity and passion people have are right up there with South American and European countries. Just because they are not world champions it hasn’t stopped the millions of people who have become involved in the game.
The US team’s chances of taking a World Cup title
At the time of writing, it has been estimated that the chances of advancing from its group are about 50/50. If they do progress on from this then the 2022 World Cup betting odds will be changed dramatically, to say the least. They will have to beat Wales in November in order to progress further and although Wales has never seen significant success in the FIFA World Cup, except for making it to the quarter-finals in 1958, they will want to put the hammer down. If the United States can secure a win against the Welsh, then they have cemented a positive and somewhat reassuring foundation to let them take on the big boys of the game.
Past victories for the US team
Looking at the history of the United States team in the FIFA World Cup, after 1930, they finished 16th in 1934 and withdrew in 1938. They made it to Group Stage in 1950 where they finished 10th. After that, there was a drought from 1954 to 1986, but made it to the Group stage in 1990 and qualified up until 2018. There is no doubt that the United States team is looking to pick up the pieces of their failure to qualify in 2018 and make amends. That being said, the United States team has a lot of work to do. Every other team that is participating is tremendously hungry for the prized World Cup, none other than France who will want to retain the Cup and, given their history, will definitely not want to lose against the United States.
The takeaway here is that if you are an avid supporter of the United States team, nothing will shake you. If, on the other hand, you are more contentious, then you will be probably inclined to bet for the other team they are playing. But who knows?
The United States has caused some of the greatest upsets in sporting history in the past and there is no reason why they can’t do this with the 2022 FIFA World Cup going forward. At this early stage, it could be anyone’s title and the US team is no doubt training as hard as they can to achieve greatness in this year’s cup.
