Dream jobs like these don’t come up often.

Guide Dogs is looking for a new employee to serve as Canine’s Science Assistant – with part of the responsibilities including cuddling puppies.

It will be the responsibility of the newcomer to give the guide dogs ‘the best start in life’ and help them succeed as a guide dog.

Could it be cuter?

Based at Leamington Spa, the lucky staff will be paid £23,173 and work four days a week to help people with visual impairments lead full and independent lives.

Day-to-day work includes assisting the Canine Science Association with data collection, data entry, and project management tasks.

The focus will be on helping to assess dog behavior, which plays an important role in the charity’s work.

Primarily new recruits will work with seven-week-old puppies, researching videos of them to help the charity understand their personalities and needs.

They will also test them as they grow and become human.

Helen Whiteside, scientific director of Guide Dogs, said: ‘In addition to providing other services that improve the lives of people with visual impairments, Guide Dogs breeds and trains more than 1,000 dogs each year.

‘Canine’s Assistant Scientific will assist with the development and conduct of our important research on canine behavior, health and fitness.

‘This important role will focus on the well-being of our puppies: getting to know them, interacting and bonding with them as they grow into happy, healthy guide dogs.

‘We are delighted to see applications and look forward to offering this dream position to a lucky candidate with exceptional research experience.’

To be considered, you need experience working with or interacting with animals, along with a degree in an animal science or subject.

If you don’t have a degree, two years of experience with animals is still enough to apply.

While working from the office, there will also be some opportunities to work from home.

The contracted role will last for one year and applications need to be submitted by Sunday, December 5.
