Following the unveiling of the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight expansion, fans of the franchise have expressed dislike for the look of the new race, with one even going so far as to give it an entirely new design.
One of the features of WoW’s next expansion, Dragonflight, is a new playable race, the Dractyr. They are an ancient race of humanoid dragonkin created by the black dragon aspect Neltharion to create his ideal soldiers.
As you might expect, they are dragon-like in nature and similar to worgen can switch between two forms, draconian and humanoid. This leaves a lot of room for potential customization for the race as not only is it the first of its kind but it is also new to the game which tends to bring new traits with it.
Though the race looked flashy at first glance, fans of the franchise aren’t happy with its aesthetic – leading some to remake it.
The Dractyr will be the first playable dragon-like race in WoW.

Addressed by a Reddit user PotatoandBacon on the official WoW subreddit, the Redditor posted artworks by Paladins art director, ‘ThunderBrush’, who aimed to improve the look of the Dractyr while trying to stay “within the bounds” of what Blizzard’s art team had created.
“I’m posting this out of respect for the work of @Warcraft and all of the incredibly talented artists at Blizzard,” ThunderBrush continued Twitter. “On that note… The Dractyr could be a lot cooler, I think. Did a paint over for fun while trying to stay within the ‘boundaries’ they are trying to set.”

It was a smash hit in the community and garnered plenty of praise as many fans of the game pointed out that despite “subtle” changes, the race feels “more robust”.
“I really like these changes” called a fan. “They are subtle and give the race a much more robust feel overall. It’s not simply an image of a DND character saying “I want this!” it actually provides constructive feedback on certain aspects of what has already been created. I’d be a lot more excited to play as Dractyrs if they looked like that!”
With no Dragonflight and beta release dates in sight just yet, only time will tell if Blizzard will make adjustments to placate fans of the game.
