Worker injured in 20ft fall into ditch in Knightdale

KNIGHTDALE, NC (WNCN) – A worker was injured Tuesday when he fell into an open ditch at a construction site north of Knightdale, officials said.

Just before noon, the Knightdale Fire Department was called to the intersection of Haywood Glen Drive and Old Night Road in response to a ditch rescue, according to Chief Loren Cone of the Knightdale Fire Department.

Four firefighting units responded and located a worker who fell 20 feet into a ditch.

Officials said the worker was conscious when found but may be suffering from a broken leg.

Knightdale Fire enlisted the help of the Raleigh Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team and performed “a basket-lift rescue using a turntable ladder.”

The worker was pulled from the trench within an hour and transferred to WakeMed, Cone said.

The rescued worker is said to be in stable condition. Worker injured in 20ft fall into ditch in Knightdale
