Woman survives attempted murder-suicide on Rustling Gate Lane in Katy where man shot himself, MPs say

KATY, Texas (KTRK) — A man has been found dead and a woman lies in hospital following a shooting in the Katy area that lawmakers believe was an attempted murder suicide.

The shooting took place around 10:30 p.m. Monday at a home on the 5500 block of Rustling Gate Lane.

Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies said domestic disturbances broke out between the couple at the home.

Witnesses heard shots.

Deputies believe the man shot the woman once before leaving the house and shooting himself in the front yard.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where she is in stable condition, according to MPs.

“According to the witnesses, the woman was shot once,” said investigator David Crane. “The man in an intimate relationship … has left the house and appears to have shot himself in the front yard of this residence.”

MPs said the man and woman share the same last name, which is a shared last name. It’s unclear if they were a married couple or boyfriend and girlfriend.
