A WOMAN has died and two others are seriously injured after a horror crash took place outside a Wigan pub last night.
The police launched a night hunt for the driver of a silver Land Rover Freelander believed to have mounted a pavement on Ormskirk Road and plowed into three pedestrians.
The driver did not stop at the scene of the accident.
Detectives announced this morning that a woman in her 40s was killed in the crash at 9.20pm.
Two men were seriously injured and remain in the hospital.
Officials have arrested two men on suspicion of killing them by dangerous driving.
The couple are in custody this morning.
The road is closed and motorists are advised to take alternative routes.
PC Oliver Batty, of Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, urged anyone with information to come forward.
“Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who is understandably devastated by the circumstances of how her loved one lost her life,” he said.
“We immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances and the road has been closed for some time while we have conducted a number of inquiries.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who has information or dash cam footage that can help us with our investigation and give the woman’s family the answers they deserve.
“In particular, anyone who may have seen a silver Land Rover Freelander in the Ormskirk Road area in the minutes prior to this incident is urged to get in touch with us.
“Anyone with information is asked to call 0161 856 4741 or report this online or via LiveChat at gmp.police.uk.”
