Woman freed by FDNY after being trapped in New York hookah bar

Karma was indeed a slut for this woman!

A woman was trapped in the bowels of an East Village hookah bar overnight before the FDNY came to her rescue early Saturday, officials said.

The shocked lady emerged from the basement of Karma, a two-story hookah club on First Avenue between Third and Fourth Streets.

How the woman was locked in the lounge remained a mystery as of Saturday afternoon as Karma remained closed and police said they had no details of the incident.

The FDNY said it received a report at 12:01 am Saturday of a “person with an altered mental status” at 51 First Avenue and that the person was taken to Bellevue Hospital.

At 1:00 p.m., the black gate above the entrance to Karma, which was written in red, green, and white graffiti, was still closed. The thin black-and-green railing and gate to the basement where the woman had been rescued appeared to be broken, falling apart on the right.

Karma has not reopened since the incident.

Leslie Padilla, 39, a manager at Ace Hardware next door, was smoking a cigarette and said when he got to work around 7:30am on Saturday the woman had already been rescued and was in a car with another man.

“Things happen, it’s a bar, people drink,” Padilla said of the lock-in.

Neighbors living on karma were less diplomatic.

Ariana Barone, 23, a paralegal, described the venue as “fairly busy” on the weekends and Thursday through Sunday “there’s a pretty constant beat of music in our apartment.”

Locals have complained about the club's clientele and noise.

The news of the abandoned clubber startled Barone.

“I’m watching ‘Dahmer’ right now, so it’s really freaky,” she said, referring to the Netflix series about the serial killer.

A person who identified himself as the “owner/manager” of Karma declined to comment.

The quirky episode recalls an incident on Friday the 13th in 2018 when a man in his 20s called 911 because he was being locked up at the Marshall Stack Bar on Rivington Street off Allen Street on the Lower East Side .

In this case, firefighters responded moments later, opening the door and letting the man out. He had been locked in the bar for more than three hours past 4am.
