Woman dies after being found with gunshot wounds along Lee County Road, sheriff says

SANFORD, NC (WNCN) — A woman with gunshot wounds died after she was found lying on a Lee County road early Saturday, officials said.

The incident was reported as a “disruption” around 3 a.m. at the 4300 block of Steele Bridge Road, which is about two miles southwest of Sanford, according to a news release from Lee County Sheriff Brian Estes

“Upon arrival, deputies found a woman with gunshot wounds” lying on the street, the press release said.

The woman died of her wounds, Estes said.

“This investigation is being investigated as a homicide and is currently ongoing,” Estes said in the press release.
