Woman charged after 4-year-old dies from accidental gunshot in Halifax Co

HALIFAX COUNTY, NC (WNCN) – The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office says Roanoke Rapids police arrested a woman Tuesday after Tuesday accidental gunshot death of a 4 year old again in May.
Shafika Gwynn, 39, is accused of failing to keep a firearm to protect minors.
The incident happened around noon on May 20 on Delta Drive in South Rosemary, west of Roanoke Rapids, according to Halifax County Deputy Chief Scott Hall.
He says the 4-year-old died from a gunshot wound that appeared to be self-inflicted.
MPs say an investigation led to arrest warrants being issued for Gwynn.
She posted bail and is scheduled for a July 20 court date.
