Woman and her pit bulls struck in a hit-and-run in the Bronx

A woman walking her pit bulls was seriously injured in the Bronx in a hit-and-run accident that killed one of her beloved dogs, police said Wednesday.

An Audi SUV struck 55-year-old Tanyi Mejia as she was crossing the Grand Concourse at the intersection of Mosholu Parkway just after 9 p.m. Tuesday, police and sources said.

Mejia was taken to St Barnabas Hospital, where a family member told the Post she had a mild concussion.

“As far as I know, she’s conscious … they’re only monitoring her because she’s had what appears to be a mild concussion,” said her stepson, George Alvia.

At first, the family didn’t have the heart to even tell Mejia that one of their pit bulls had died.

“[My dad] didn’t tell her because he didn’t want her to panic or anything,” he said.
