Will Social Security recipients get a fourth stimulus check?

A PETITION trying to convince Congress to send seniors a fourth stimulus check continues to circulate.
The Senior Citizens League, a nonpartisan advocacy group, is calling for a one-time $1,400 stimulus check for Social Security claimants.
The group sent a letter to Congress last year saying the cost-of-living adjustment coupled with inflation will hit many older Americans on a fixed income hard.
The suggestion came after hearing from many seniors who shared their hardships in the wake of the pandemic.
Shannon Benton, of the Senior Citizens League, told The Sun: “We’ve received hundreds of emails from people concerned about making ends meet.
“Adjusting the high cost of living for many only exacerbated their financial woes, pushing their income beyond program limits to qualify for Medicare savings programs and additional assistance.”
The Senior Citizens League isn’t the only group trying to appeal to Congress.
There is a petition on Change.org that has received more than 3 million signatures. It was founded by a Denver restaurant owner.
It asks Congress to provide monthly stimulus checks of $2,000 for adults and $1,000 for children “Duration of the Crisis”.
Will lawmakers provide for a fourth stimulus check?
Dozens of lawmakers have been pushing for recurring stimulus payments, but any hope was brushed aside as lawmakers focused on the Build Back Better Act.
The Social Spending Plan stalled in Congress late last year.
Congress has since turned to other issues, and no talks of stimulus money are currently on the table.
This means that Social Security claimants should not expect to receive a $1,400 check.
Other assistance for social security recipients
The Social Security Administration examines the cost of living and makes the necessary increases in Social Security benefits.
This practice has been practiced since the 1950s to help offset inflation for people living on a fixed income.
The cost of living adjustment for 2022 rose to 5.9%, one of the highest in history.
That means about 70 million Americans will receive a monthly increase in their benefits in 2022.
In other Social Security news, more couples can now receive the benefits.
