Wife of NYPD cop Orlando Adorno who was shot in NYC opens up about a ‘nightmare’

The wife of a Brooklyn police officer who was shot dead during a domestic riot in Bedford-Stuyvesant took to Facebook on Wednesday to share how she “lived everyone’s worst nightmare.”
Michelle Adorno, whose 38-year-old cop husband Orlando Adorno was wounded Tuesday night while detaining a suspect, described in an online post the harrowing moments she received the dreaded phone over the shooting.
“I experienced everyone’s worst nightmare today when I got the call and was picked up by a squad car speeding towards the hospital with lights on,” she said on the private group NYPD Wives.

“Thank god it wasn’t worse and the unthinkable,” she wrote. “Thank you for those who have reached out to see if I’m okay. All ladies get to have theirs [significant other] risk their lives every day.
“But nothing prepares you for this call,” she added. “Definitely shaken but standing.”
Her husband’s terse call came around 9 p.m. Tuesday, when he and other officers were responding to a house disturbance call on Gates Ave. 277 responded.

Police at the scene took Raheen Joye, 41, into custody on criminal mischief charges when he pulled his hand loose, pulled a 9mm pistol from his waistband and fired a shot that police say hit Adorno in the right foot.
Other officers chased Joye to 181 Monroe Street, where he was shot twice in the thigh in a shootout with police officers and taken into custody.
Adorno, a NYPD veteran assigned to Brooklyn’s 79th Precinct for seven years, was treated at Kings County Hospital and released hours later with a traditional “strike” ceremony.

Police said he was the 10th city police officer to be shot this year.
