Why the John Durham Inquiry Matters

Get ready for another round of media to tell you why John Durham’s investigation does not matter. After all, isn’t this just a case of lying to a federal agent? The Times, Washington Post, CNN and others will rush in to say it’s nothing.

It is everything – and here’s why.

If Hillary Clinton or one of her spokespeople had gone to the media in 2016 and said Donald Trump was a Russian agent, yes, they would have gotten half an hour on MSNBC, but others would have asked for evidence, curious that this was so. t just the imagination of a political opponent.

Ah, but what if you could get the FBI to start an investigation? That would add an air of credibility to this whole venture. Then someone leaks it to the press, and voilà, you’ve armed the nation’s justice system and nobody is the smarter.

And the best part is, you don’t even need real proof! Just lie a lot.

That’s what Clinton’s campaign did. Michael Sussmann claimed to be just an ordinary concerned citizen when in fact he was a Clinton attorney. Christopher Steele claimed to be a concerned ex-spy when in fact he was a Clinton opposition researcher. They met with the FBI and fed investigators a bunch of crap about Russian banks and pee tapes.

These vicious rumors swirled ahead of the 2016 election, but after Trump’s surprise victory, angry media outlets violently snapped them up. And so, opposition research paid for and directed by Hillary Clinton led to the resignation of an attorney general, the appointment of a special prosecutor, the banging of heads every night, and the hijacking of half a presidency.

Clinton’s people are desperate to get this over with. They paid more than $100,000 to the Federal Election Commission for lying about spending money on opposition research. Sussmann raises objection after objection while Durham methodically presents his case that the attorney lied to the FBI.

Russiagate is a political smear of Nixonian proportions – worse for having used the government itself to throw the mud. There’s a great story here. If Hunter Biden is any clue, the rest of the media will get around to telling it in about three years.
