Why is Christina Ricci surprised by her own daughter’s name

Christina Ricci recalled her daughter’s birth story in an interview for “The Ellen Show,” and the “Casper” actress revealed she was surprised by her daughter’s name after she surgery to deliver the baby through the C-section (through YouTube). Ricci said that while being prepped by hospital staff, she spoke with her husband, Mark Hampton, about the information they needed for the birth certificate (via HuffPost). Apparently, Ricci and Hampton have decided to name their daughter Cleo, but Hampton is confused as to whether Cleo is just a nickname.

Ricci told Ellen DeGeneres: “My husband said, ‘Well, we’re going to give her a full name, shall we? And then the Cleo nickname? ” Ricci added, “I was like, ‘Cleopatra?’ And he said, ‘That’s right, the full name is Cleopatra,’ and then the actress was taken away to have the baby. Ricci thinks they will continue to discuss future names later, but Hampton thinks Cleopatra is the final decision.

Right after Ricci gave birth, Hampton excitedly got to work Instagram to share the news, posted a photo of the newborn along with a caption that read, “Welcome to baby world Cleopatra Ricci Hampton.” As Ricci recounted to DeGeneres, “He was so excited he took it to Instagram and the media gathered that her full name was Cleopatra Ricci Hampton.” She added, “And so I said, ‘I guess we named her Cleopatra.'”
