Following the shocking news that Henry Cavill will no longer be returning as Superman, heartbroken fans have begun to speculate as to who could possibly replace him as the Man of Steel.
Speaking on Instagram on Wednesday (December 14), Cavill said the news came “after the studio told me to announce my return in October ahead of their hiring, this news isn’t the easiest of news but such is life.”
“The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James [Gunn] and Peter [Safran] have a universe to build. I wish them and everyone involved with the new universe the best of luck and happiness.”
Director James Gunn, the newly appointed co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios, shared that the upcoming Superman iteration will instead focus on the superhero’s younger years.
So while many fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment and say they “couldn’t imagine” a better Superman than Cavill, other possible replacements have theorized.
And since Gunn plans to narrate Superman’s origin story, it would only make sense for a younger actor to take the lead.
Some have suggested euphoria Bad boy Jacob Elordi would make a good young Cavill. Perhaps it’s her similarly deep brown locks and sharp jawline that has fans turning to him, but given the fact that the 25-year-old Australian has already shown off his incredible acting skills, it wouldn’t be a bad choice.
Also, he has the powerlessness factor that is essential for all superheroes.
Meanwhile, some have offered Austin Butler as a suitable replacement. Like Elordi, Butler has climbed onto people’s radar with his latest, award-nominated role as Elvis Presley in Baz Lurhman’s biopic elvis
The King of Pop is basically the equivalent of a real life superhero, right?
Another name that has recently made its way into fan picks is Adam DiMarco. The White Lotus Season 2’s nice guy, Albie.
Despite being just seven years younger than Cavill, the 32-year-old Canadian actor has a face that would still work as Cavill’s teenage counterpart. With Albie’s self-diagnosed savior complex on DiMarco’s resume, he’s also poised to take on Clark Kent’s selflessness.
