IIt’s been a long time since Hollywood’s biggest night had a host. The Oscar There hasn’t been an MC since Kevin Hart departed under a cloud ahead of the 2019 awards, but this year they’re shaking things up. Earlier this week, the Academy confirmed that this year’s show will indeed have a presenter but has yet to give any indication of who that person might be.

Naturally, this development sent buzz around Los Angeles, fueling feverish speculation that the Academy only encouraged. On Wednesday, they teased: “Hypothetically, if we asked you who you want to host the Oscars and this is purely hypothetical, who would it be?” Popular recommendations include Better things actor Diedrich Bader, an idea created by Better things actor Diedrich Bader.

While we can only applaud Bader’s chutzpah, the status of his application sadly remains a mystery. Meanwhile, the rumor mill continued to buzz. Here’s our list of the people most likely to be offered a gig:

Jimmy Kimmel

Who: ABC’s late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel Live!, as well as hosting the Oscars in both 2017 and 2018.

Advantages: A safe pair of hands – plus Jimmy Kimmel Live! was shot right across from the Oscars, so he wouldn’t have to travel far.

Defect: If the purpose is to refresh the show, bringing Kimmel back will feel like a throwback to the past.

Tiffany Haddish

Haddish’s ‘Girls Trip’ producer will coordinate the 2022 ceremony

(Beautiful pictures)

Who: An evil family background and a genuine movie star in comedies like School trip for girls, School by night and Like a boss. As it happens, this year’s Oscars broadcasts are being brought together by Girl’s trip producer Will Packer, fueled speculation that she would be the frontrunner.

Advantages: Stand-ups tend to fare better as hosts, but they need action credit. too. Haddish ticked both boxes. More importantly, she’s incredibly funny and easily engaging – exactly the kind of talent you need in this often ungrateful role.

Defect: Supposedly too funny for the Oscars?

Who: Kim Kardashian is currently one of the most desired men on the planet – and the Academy seems to think so too. Tom Holland

Can the Netherlands host the Oscars?

(Beautiful pictures)

Who: Spider-Man himself, or his full name: Mr Zendaya.

Advantages: He’s likable, young, and a literal Marvel superhero, not to mention half of Hollywood’s almost incomparably lovable power couple. The academy is said to have contacted Holland after he remarked in an interview: “What kind of idiot doesn’t host the Oscars?” Apparently, he doesn’t follow the Kevin Hart story.

Defect: At 25, could Holland lack the gravity needed to stand trial for A-Listers and nighttime narcissists?

Hosts with the most points: 3/5

James Corden

Oscars 2020: James Corden and Rebel Wilson give awards when dressing up as Cat actors

Who: Adult theater kid and host of CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden.

Advantages: Has a wealth of experience hosting, and has the potential to shape and deliver some spectacular performance if it ends up aggravating its own singing and dancing habits.

Steve Martin and Martin Short

Who: Comedy legends met on set in 1985 Three Amigos! and have remained friends ever since, recently scoring success with the mystery series There’s only Murder in the Building.

Advantages: This couple is a literal comedy duo (don’t miss their two men’s great show). An evening you will forget for the rest of your life on Netflix) and they’ve got some heavyweight support. Judd Apatow lobbied for them on Twitter: “That would be pure fun and we need that.”
