Who is Shirley Hughes?

Shirley Hughes, CBE born 16 July 1927 is an English author and illustrator.

She has written more than fifty books, including the beloved Alfie series.

Over the course of her career, Shirley has illustrated around 200 children’s books and has achieved lifetime sales of over 10 million copies of her books.

She was appointed a CBE in 2017 for her services to Children’s Literature, then was accredited an OBE in 1999.

What was the cause of her death?

The author passed away “peacefully at home after a brief illness on February 25, 2022,” her family announced.
