Fans should be ready for some laughs and tears in this special season.

However, Bobby Bones – the 4th judge in the previous 4 seasons was disqualified due to conflicting commitments.

In a now-expired Instagram post, Bones said, “Some of you noticed that I’m not on the Idol promo this season. My contract (with) my new network won’t allow it. I’m doing another show right now. Love Idol, btw. It’s been 4 great years.”

Wolflick said they don’t have another person in line to replace Bones, but there are alternative ideas in the works to include former American Idol contestants and winners.

Ryan Seacrest, who has hosted the show since its inception in 2002, will return as host.

Season 18 of American Idol has been shut down due to Covid-19 protocols, but it is the first competitive reality series to return to screens and broadcast remotely.

Using custom Zoom technology, contestants singing for producers are given the green light to move on to a jury audition.

This season, American Idol will return to live broadcasts, but with the necessary safety procedures in place.

To ensure the protection of the cast, crew and participants, the number of cities where auditions are held has been reduced and judges will be socially isolated.

The winner of American Idol 2020 is Just Sam, nicknamed Samantha Diaz, a 23-year-old singer-songwriter from Harlem, New York.
