Who is Janice Long and what disease does she have?

BBC presenter and former Top of the Pops presenter Janice Long has died aged 66 after a short battle with illness.

Her agent, Nigel Forsyth, confirmed the sad news in a statement, detailing that she had suffered a “short illness” before. she passed away surrounded by family.

Who is Janice Long?

Janice is an English radio presenter best known for her appearances on BBC Radio, including their Radio 1 and Radio 2 channels.

The star, who grew up in Liverpool, initially trained as a Laker Airways flight attendant before moving into telesales and insurance.

She became an assistant at BBC Radio Merseyside in 1979, where her obvious hosting talent was discovered – and she was eventually assigned to her own programme.

Janice hosts Streetlife on Sunday morning – where she interviews Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Paul Gambaccini on a local show.

She was then introduced to BBC Radio 1 by broadcaster Paul before she made her public debut with a Saturday night show in 1982.

The chart show Top of the Pops then welcomed her as its first female host in 1983, where she co-presented the show alongside John Peel.

Janice returned to co-present the final show in July 2006 after decades of work with Crash FM, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 6 Music.

She also presented four nights a week on BBC Radio Wales until her death, as well as Saturday afternoon time on Greatest Hits Radio.

In addition to radio, Janice has appeared on The X Factor, Countdown and The Weakest Link – as well as lent her voice on BBC Three’s Desperate Midwives.

What was the cause of Janice Long’s death?

The exact cause of Janice’s death is currently unknown, but those close to her confirmed her death was due to “a brief illness”.

She was hospitalized for the brief battle, which she revealed to her followers on social media, writing: “Good morning world from my hospital bed in Liverpool.”

It was later revealed that she had passed away on Christmas Day.

Her agent, Nigel, said of her death in a statement: “Janice was a wonderful, warm person and an exceptional broadcaster.

“She tells a wonderful story and always makes you laugh with her sharp wit. She will leave her husband Paul and two children behind.

“Janice loves BBC radio and started her career as a radio assistant at BBC Radio Merseyside in 1979, completing it with the wonderful people at BBC Radio Wales.

“Janice wants to know that she is very grateful to the NHS and all the people who have looked after her there.”

Is Janice Long related to Keith Chegwin?

Janice is the younger sister of TV presenter and actress Keith Chegwin, who is tragic passed away in December 2017.

This star once suffered from lung disease and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis before passing away at the age of 60.

Keith, who made a name for himself with popular children’s shows Chegger Plays Pop and Saturday Superstore, has died at home surrounded by his family.

The family wrote at the time: “We are heartbroken to hear that Keith Chegwin has passed away after a long battle with his progressive lung condition, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, his worsening illness. more later this year.”

The TV presenter has spent his final weeks at the Severn Hospice in Shrewsbury – where his family thanked them for their “kindness, support and care”.

Does Janice Long have children?

Janice is already a mother of two, sharing children Fred and Blue with husband Paul Berry, whom she married in an intimate ceremony in 2017.

The couple formed a relationship in 1987, years after her divorce from first husband Trevor Long, whom she married in 1977.

Fred and Blue have remained largely unnoticed in their lives – and are now believed to be in their 30s.
