New posters for Season 2 of The Wheel of Time have given us new glimpses of some newcomers, including High Lady Suroth, Aviendha and the new actor who plays Mat.
After fans have waited almost two years since the dramatic finale, The Wheel of Time returns to Prime Video for its long-awaited second season. To add to the already huge anticipation, Amazon has released a series of posters to show off both new and returning characters.
New Mat actor joins the fray
The first of the new posters we’re looking at features Mat Cauthon and Min Farshaw.
Both characters are returning to the series, but fans will notice that Mat is being played by a new actor following the departure of Barney Harris, who has not appeared in a role since.
Mat will be played in Season 2 and beyond by Donal Finn, whose previous roles include The Witcher, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, and SAS Rogue Heroes.
In Season 2, Mat will embark on a journey of self-discovery while Min will demonstrate her incredible ability to see into the future.
After the dramatic revelation that Rand al’Thor is the dragon reincarnated, he finds himself alone trying to survive in a dangerous world.
This puts him on the path to meeting Selene, an innkeeper from Cairhein with whom he has formed a connection.
Selene is played by Natasha O’Keeffe, who fans may recognize from Peaky Blinders, Sherlock, Resistance, Misfits and Intergalactic.
The next poster features Westworld and Chernobyl veteran Fares Fares, appearing as the villainous Ishmael, standing alongside the regal-looking High Lady Suroth.
The imposing Seanchan noble hails from a distant land in the world of the Wheel of Time
High Lady Suroth, an imposing Seanchan noblewoman from a far-off land with an innate talent for intrigue – which is no surprise given that she likes to hide her face.
Karima McAdams takes on the role while previous appearances have been in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Vikings and Deep State.
Elayne Trakand, played by Ceara Coveney, appears on her poster alongside the returning Egwene.
Elyane, heir to the throne of Andor (not to be confused with the Star Wars series/character of the same name), is just beginning her magical journey.
Actress Ceara Coveney has only recently entered the acting industry, with The Wheel of Time being only her second role after appearing in The Young Wallander in 2022.
And the final poster, featuring a new character, has Perrin, the returning Marcus Rutherford, alongside a hooded Aviendha.
Aviendha, played by Ayoola Smart, is a Maiden of Spear from Aiel and will play a key role in Rand’s future alongside Min and Elayne.
Actress Ayoola Smart most recently appeared in the film Cocaine Bear and has also had roles in Killing Eve, Death in Paradise and Vera.
