‘What’s the point?’: Frank Leboeuf urges ‘outstanding’ player not to secure Arsenal transfer

Frank Leboeuf has told David Raya he should decide against a move to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal because he will be on the bench.

Mikel Arteta already has an established number one goalkeeper in Aaron Ramsdale and Leboeuf asked: “What’s the point?” from David Raya, who joins him.

Arsenal are close to signing the Brentford star but it is initially on loan with an option to make him permanent, as reported by Sky Sports.

Ex-Chelsea player Leboeuf pointed out that Raya had been “outstanding” and that he should instead try to move to a club below Arsenal where he would be in the starting XI, he said ESPN.

This potential deal has generated a lot of buzz and eyebrows have been raised by a number of people including former goalkeepers including Brad Friedel.

From an outfield perspective, Leboeuf is confused by all of this.

“I don’t understand the players anymore,” said Leboeuf. “They don’t want to play football. It’s all about the club they play for and the money they get.

“Really, what is it about? They play in the Premier League and have been outstanding. And now you’re sitting on the bench because we read the Ramsdale article. We know how highly Arteta rates Ramsdale.

“Raya doesn’t get a chance to play unless Ramsdale is injured. So what’s the point?!” Yes, Arsenal are a big club.

“But what’s the point of going to the bench for the Gunners? I do not get it. You’ll have some clubs that maybe you can sign with, maybe not with a club as big as the Gunners, but at least you’ll play. You will play soccer, which is the essence of a soccer player.”

Arteta is taking a big risk

It’s necessary if you want to win the Premier League title because it’s only going to go one way, and only one way.

It’s either going very, very, very well, or it’s going horribly wrong.

But the most important thing about the whole thing is that the powers that be have once again supported Arteta and allowed him to do what he wants, which is the most important thing because then he can be fully judged.
