When Noble Morris and Jazzaree Munoz started dating three years ago, they discovered that they shared a passion for collecting Funko Pop! data.
Morris, 26, and Munoz, 22, both from Victorville, have spent some of their first dates enjoying boba bubble tea drinks and watching over four-inch-tall cartoon-like figurines, modeled after TV, film and comic characters, musicians, sports icons and historical figures, in stores throughout Southern California.
Throughout their relationship, they gave each other rare and hard-to-get Pop music! figures for birthdays and valentines day. So Morris decided the perfect venue to propose to Munoz on their three-year anniversary last November would be at the Funko Hollywood store, a 40,000-acre pop culture and collectible wonderland. square foot located just one block east of the Pantages Theater on Hollywood Boulevard.
Morris said in a recent phone interview: “She really surprised me on my birthday in 2020 and took me to the Funko Hollywood store for the first time. While Morris set up the proposal with the help of store manager Jen Ryan, he learned that Funko had also launched a new Pop! People Factory, where fans and collectors can create an official Pop! their data in place.
“This time we went with a traditional bride and groom,” says Morris, noting that he had visited the store before the unexpected proposal of building the figures with the idea that they would be used in the future. Used as a couple’s wedding cake.
He has a feeling that this approach will go well. Morris said that before he proposed and before either of them knew about the possibility of custom characters, he asked Munoz if she thought their own version of Funko would be too silly for someone else. wedding cake or not. He recalls her response: “She said, ‘No, that’s my dream and it’s going to be the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen.’
Although they haven’t set a date, Morris did say some of their Funko Pop! The collection will be paired with their enchanted forest theme and the couple will definitely be back in the store for more Pops! their own version.
“This is a whole new experience,” he said. “This way you can do something special and you can do it for yourself or make one for someone you love.”
Funko recently updated Pop! Every kiosk so that in about 30 minutes visitors can digitally create their own custom Pop! and assembled by an employee and placed in a personalized box. Every Pop! This figure costs $25 (additional accessories are extra) and they can only be made in person at two store locations, one of which is a Hollywood location and the other is in Washington state.
This approach is different from when the store reopened in November 2019 and the customer dug up boxes of parts themselves to assemble the figures. Just four months after opening, the COVID-19 pandemic closed the store for several months and they were forced to reimagine the experience, including digital kiosks and hand sanitizer stations.
“When COVID hit, we had to find a safe way for people to stay Pop! Ryan said during a recent store visit. “We came up with the idea to do it like on an iPad and an app-based program and that’s what we created here. It worked, but we’re still learning about people’s preferences and what they want and how we can improve this. Over the past year, we’ve updated this three or four times to be more comprehensive.”
The Funko Hollywood store is required to wear a face covering at all times in the store, and everyone 12 years of age and older must present proof of full COVID-19 vaccination to enter. Pop music!
