To cause fire

Bombs deal damage when they explode, but incendiary explosives also cause fires.

They can also be used to damage machinery that requires fire to function.

These can leave extensive continuous destruction as the fire continues to grow after the initial explosion.

Low explosives

This is the simplest and oldest type of bomb.

They need a gun-like explosive mixed with fuel to produce hot gas when ignited.

Such low-impact bombs tend to need to be used in large numbers to be worthwhile deployment in modern warfare.
