What is aphasia? The reason Bruce Willis retired

On Wednesday, movie fans learned that Bruce is Willis step away from acting in the midst of an aphasia diagnosis.
Ex-wife Demi Moore released a statement announcing his retirement at the age of 67.
“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, we wanted to share as a family that our beloved Bruce is experiencing some health issues and was recently diagnosed with aphasia which is affecting his cognitive abilities,” Moore, 59, shared on Instagram. “As a result, and with much deliberation, Bruce is stepping down from the career that has meant so much to him.”
The announcement did not provide any further details on the nature or cause of the Die Hard star’s condition.
But, youngest reports claim that Willis’s cognitive problems are not necessarily a recent development. An insider said Page Six that the actor had recently been using “earphones, hearing aids, so they feed him the lines” on sets, and that “it was getting harder and harder to get him on screen.”


The Post has reached out to the actor’s representatives for clarification on his condition.
Aphasia is externally characterized by difficulty in speaking and understanding language conversations. It occurs because of an injury to the language center of the brain — usually as a result of a neurological condition, stroke, brain tumor, or hemorrhage. Diagnosis is confirmed by MRI or CT scans, accordingly the National Institutes of Health.
It could look that way someone who uses gibberish, or can only speak in short bursts. Alternatively, certain injuries can cause greatly reduced symptoms, such as: B. the inability to remember the names of objects or to repeat a word the person has heard.


Treatment for aphasia begins with finding the underlying cause of the symptoms, which may resolve naturally as these injuries heal, even without treatment. In others, particularly those with a neurodegenerative disease such as Alzheimer’s, the signs of aphasia may be progressive. Speech therapy is usually recommended for those whose aphasia persists for whatever reason.
“We are going through this as a strong family unit and wanted to include his fans because we know how much he means to you, just as you do to him,” continued the family’s statement, which was also signed by grown children Willis and Moore as well as his current wife Emma Heming Willis, 43, and their two young girls.
“As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up,’ and together we plan to do just that,” the statement concluded.
