What did Chris Rock say about Will Smith’s wife Jada at the Oscars?

Will Smith beating comedian Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars proved to be the most talked about moment of the night.

the King Richard Star, who won the Best Actor Oscar about 15 minutes after the altercation, criticized a joke Rock made about his wife, fellow actress Jada Pinkett Smith.

Rock was on stage at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles to present the Best Documentary Award when he commented on Pinkett Smith’s performance.

“Jada, I love you. GI Jane 2can’t wait to see you,” he joked, seemingly referring to Pinkett Smith’s shaved head.

GI Jane was a 1997 American drama film starring Demi Moore in a fictional story about the first woman to undergo special operations training similar to that of the US Navy Seals. Moore, who won a Golden Raspberry for Worst Actress for her performance, had her head shaved for the film.

Pinkett Smith – who revealed last year that she shaved her head after battling alopecia – was seen in the audience with her husband and rolled her eyes at Rock’s comment.

After the joke, Smith got up and continued walking toward the stage, prompting the comedian to utter an “uh oh.”

Then Smith slapped Rock in the face with an open hand.

“Wow! Wow. I was blown away by Will Smith,” Rock said, looking visibly shocked at the moment as an angry-looking Smith left the stage.

Smith was then heard to yell, “Keep my wife’s name out of your friggin’ mouth,” to which Rock replied, “Wow… dude. It was a GI Jane to kid.”

“Keep my wife’s name out of your damn mouth,” Smith yelled again.

“I will, okay?” Rock said before looking back at the camera. “It was the greatest night in television history,” he said before presenting Questlove with the Best Documentary award summer of the soul

Shortly after the incident, he appeared to joke about it on his official Instagram page, writing, “You can’t invite people from Philly or Baltimore anywhere!!”

Smith was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and his wife is from Baltimore, Maryland.
