DAVID MOYES says the Premier League big boys missed the chance to sign Declan Rice for ‘cheap’ – for £100m.
And West Ham Bosses have warned them there will be a ‘terrible’ offer to reward him go this summer.
Rice, 23, is on the radar of people like Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea after establishing himself as an elite talent for club and country.
The midfielder’s contract will expire in 2024.
Moyes previously said it would cost £100m to acquire Rice but now believes that price tag will be even greater.
Ahead of today’s FA Cup trip to out-of-season Kidderminster, Moyes said: “You’re going to need huge sums of money to get close.
“I said in the summer that I think Declan Rice is worth £100m. It’s your chance to get him for cheap. You can make up your mind on what I am talking about now.
“I feel his commitment. He has a contract and we are really pleased to have him. He’s definitely been here for a few years.
“He’s like a special edition Declan Rice, there aren’t many like him.
“He is said to play as well as any midfielder in European football, and the price is very expensive in January, isn’t he?”
Rice wants to stay close to her family in south-west London. However, there are concerns that the club’s lack of investment in January could convince him that his future is elsewhere.
Moyes was frustrated after several deadline moves fell through.
He added: “Do we want to add to the team? It’s correct. We tried to be ambitious with what we were doing. I want to move the club forward.
“I don’t just want to be redundant, I want to be really competitive.
“I don’t feel like it’s a transfer window for me, because it’s not for many other teams.
“I want real people who will take other people’s shirts and challenge them.”
