Claudio Ranieri Had to pay for Watford’s mistakes after they lost 1-2 to Brentford.
The Hornets are leading with just six minutes to go before Emmanuel Dennis and look well-deserved for a win that will take them to six points in the relegation zone.
But Pontus Jansson headed off toothless Brentford and in injury time Watford completed the surrender after William Ekong tripped Saman Ghoddos in the area.
Bryan Mbeumo stepped up to take the penalty and put Ranieri on his fourth straight defeat.
“Look, we started well, we scored, but in the second half we went too deep,” Ranieri said. I don’t want this. We have to be close to each other.
“We missed our second chance to score and made a mistake to concede two goals. We lost the first game but we will do better in the next one.
“Last goal we made three mistakes! We missed a short pass. So then get the ball out of the stadium. Then there’s the punishment – if Willie just kept his cool.
“I was very disappointed, but my mind is on the next game. We are stronger tonight.
“We know we are in a relegation battle. It is important to react immediately. We have to be stronger tonight and ready for battle.”
Dennis headed the Hornets ahead from a corner in the 24th minute after Joshua King’s shot missed the post.
The Bees, no key people Ethan Pinnock and Ivan Toney due to Covid-19, seemed to have run out of ideas until Jansson dashed into Vitaly Janelt’s cross.
Then Mbeumo, taking the place of deadly Toney, mimicked his absent offensive partner’s run up to assist the winner and sacked Brentford to ninth.
Owner Thomas Frank said: “It’s hard to describe, I have to say it’s a great feeling.
“All we’ve been through in terms of injuries, having two big, big players with Covid, we’ve been really hit hard for this game.
“Then it will be 1-0 down. We needed to fight back, we scored in the 84th minute and never settled for a draw. We continue to fight and win.
“Oh my god. What a great feeling. Tonight will be two big glasses of wine.”
