‘We knew he was a great player’: Expert unsurprised the £25m star is now finding success at Tottenham

Janusz Michallik says everyone knew Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma was a great player.

Yves Bissouma has impressed at the start of the new season, which hasn’t entirely surprised Michallik, who went on to praise the Tottenham star ESPN.

What exactly did Janusz Michallik say about Yves Bissouma?

Commenting on Bissouma’s resurgence under Ange Postecoglou, the former USA international said: “I think Bissouma was a great player because of his injury. We were just waiting for him to get well.”

Bissouma suffered a stress fracture in his foot last season but that didn’t help as he tried to adjust at his new club A £25m move from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Constant changes in the managerial dugout didn’t do the 27-year-old and his team-mates any good as they finished eighth in the Premier League standings and missed out on European football.

However, Bissouma is fit again, having started all four of Tottenham’s games so far this season and is back in his best form.

One of Tottenham’s most important players

Bissouma has quickly become an important part of the Postecoglou team and is often the man who thwarts other teams’ attacks.

His averages of four tackles and 2.8 interceptions per game are the highest in Tottenham’s squad (who scored), showing just how good he’s been this season and why he’s already so important to his new manager.

Last season didn’t go quite to plan but if Bissouma can stay fit and maintain the form he’s shown lately, things will be different this time.

Some signings just need time or another manager to perform and Bissouma proves it.
