WAYNE and Coleen Rooney breathe a sigh of relief after travelers who have been camping next to their £20million mansion were finally told to leave.
It was only three squares away Wayne and Coleen’s 100 acre Morrison’s Mansion.‘ in Mobberley, Cheshire.
The council initially blocked plans for a website for travelers after receiving over 1,000 letters of objection from local residents.
but Michael Maloneywho describes himself as a member of the Irish walking community, moved into the property anyway and subsequently applied for planning permission.
It contained proposals for a total of three sites in the area and was rejected by Cheshire East Council in December 2020.
Just months later, Mr Maloney was given a suspended sentence for ignoring a restraining order preventing him from opening up the country.
A three-day public inquiry was held in early March this year after the family appealed the council’s decision.
Planning inspectors have now given them 12 months to leave the site in a final decision.
Mobberley Ward councilor Charlotte Leach said she was “thrilled” with the result.
She added, “It sends a clear message that we as a community will not accept anyone who recklessly flouts our planning laws and treats us with contempt.”
Locals had fought to block the original proposals, arguing that the travelers’ website would “significantly change” the calm in the countryside.
Wayne and Coleen’s nearby 40-acre pad has six bedrooms, a bar, billiards room, movie theater, gym, hot tub, swimming pool, and spa.
The Derby County manager, his wife and their four sons moved in four months ago, just before Christmas.
It was dubbed “Morrison’s Mansion” after fans pointed out its resemblance to the supermarket buildings.
Planning Inspector Roy Merrett said: “I have to balance the public interest in complying with the notice against the private interests involved in the development.
“Both the existing and the planned development of the area would be tantamount to an undesirable development, which in both forms leads to a considerable impairment of the openness of the green belt.”
