(Reuters) – Waymo has ridden hundreds of people on robotaxi since launching a trial in San Francisco in August, with tens of thousands of other residents on a waiting list, Alphabet Inc’s co-CEO said. Friday at the Reuters Next conference.
Waymo in August began offering autonomous rides to a small number of people in San Francisco with safe drivers using its Jaguar electric vehicles.
According to Tekedra Mawakana, Waymo deliberately selected diverse testers to ensure the responses were representative of the broader population. For example, half of the racers in San Francisco are women.
“In San Francisco, we are very focused on making sure that there is gender diversity because safety and traffic is such an issue. She said.
