Wilder had previously received a warm welcome from home fans on his first return since leaving the club a year ago.

It’s the least he earned after bringing them into the league from League One First League.

The win moved Sheffield United to fifth while Boro slipped to eighth – but they’re still just two points from the top six.

After a boring start, Sharp clearly sped to the left touchline and crossed.

Keeper Joe Lumley could only put the ball on Dael Fry’s back, and Berge was good at shooting home from a yard. And the hosts were 2-0 up in no time.

Jonny Howson was caught in midfield for possession by Oliver Norwood, Gibbs-White was lightning fast on the ball. He drove forward before putting down a nice pass for Sharp.

Gibbs-White broke through again but his attempt was well parried by Foderingham.

Blades’ John Egan then headed wide after a nice cross from Conor Hourihane.

After the break, referee Tim Robinson sent out Sharp and Lee Peltier after a purse incident.

Robinson fell and appeared to be helped by Sharp – who then fell backwards taking his Boro opponent with him.

They stood in the square and got yellow for behaving worse than the average kid.

Boro thought they pulled one back when Jones’ cross was pinned home from the right by Aaron Connolly at the near post – but the Ireland striker had just been sidelined.

Egan then heads over when placed well and Berge shoots just inches from 20 yards.

The points were in the bag when Norwood’s deep corner was headed back over the goal by Egan for Robinson to fire home.

Boro got some hope when Foderingham slipped trying to clear a back pass – Balogun accepted the gift.

Eleven minutes from time the goal was over when Gibbs-White cheekily deflected Ben Osborn’s cross.
