‘Waltons’ star Richard Thomas ‘The painful divorce’ left him on his knees and wasn’t his idea

Richard Thomas learned how painful a divorce can be when his first wife, Alma Gonzalez, left him after 17 years together. The breakup brought him down before finally helping him find happiness again.

Born June 1951, Richard Thomas managed to stay relevant in showbiz for decades even as his time playing John-Boy in “The Waltons” came to an end.

However, his personal life is not a walk in the park as he even needed a therapist to get through his first marriage. Even though Alma Gonzales, his first wife, says he should have expected the divorce, he is still shocked by it.

The die-hard fans of the actor probably know that he is an excellent dancer. His parents were part of the New York City Ballet and owned the New York Ballet School, so it was only natural that he was attracted to Gonzales, the nightclub’s “best dancer”.

It is essential to point out that she is not a trained ballerina or any other type of dancer. She was born in Los Angeles and attended a local college before making a living teaching English to the Chicanos.

Love blossomed, and in 1975 the couple were married at Thomas’s childhood Baptist church on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. One of the most surprising things about the wedding was not seeing their parents.

No drama, though. It’s an old Russian custom, Thomas explains, because marriage is supposed to be the time when a person enters adulthood, and parents often divide attention.

After exchanging vows, the couple spent the night at the Plaza Hotel in New York and took a hansom taxi ride around Central Park. Thomas also admitted they wanted two or three kids, but his prediction was wrong.

“Not available [single] why one person’s needs are met and the other’s are not. “

Gonzales and Thomas welcomed their first child in 1976 – a boy named Richard Jr. In 1981, there was a big surprise: they had three daughters, Pilar, Barbara, and Gwyneth. Girls’ first birthday quite memorable.

Celebrities like John Ritter and Sally Struthers attended the Mexican-style feast that included everything from piñata and margaritas to a buffet with tostadas and tamales and a white sponge cake.

As expected, the birthday girls stole the spotlight with their miniature sombreros. Some guests will no doubt praise Thomas and Gonzales for raising 4 kids.

Ritter joked that he would have to drink a lot of coffee to stay strong. He and his then-wife Nancy Morgan had two children, so he knew what parenting was like.

Thomas later admitted that he thanked God every morning for his three daughters and son, but he also pointed out that Gonzales made it all work. He to add:

“She’s a wife and a mother, and she has a great sense of pride and accomplishment in that. And she’s still a woman of her own.”

Although Thomas and Gonzales seemed to have one of the strongest marriages in Hollywood, things started to fall apart in the early 1990s. In 1993, after 17 years together, Gonzales filed for divorce.

At that time, little to no details were revealed about their separation as she only raised irreconcilable differences and was seeking joint custody of their 4 children.

In Thomas’ case, he only admitted he and his ex-wife are still in the process of getting their private lives back together. After praise his therapistThomas added that he and Gonzales are communicating.

As the months passed, more information was revealed. According to the couple’s good friend, actor Bruce Davison, Thomas was shocked that Gonzales wanted to separate in March 1992.

Gonzales admits that she might surprise him but adds that an attentive partner who is actually in contact with their spouse will find that things are not going well. She explain:

“I’m not very happy [in the marriage]. Not available [single] why one person’s needs are met and the other’s are not. “

Fortunately, Gonzales described Thomas as a good person and confessed their divorce was justified for the sake of their four children. At the time, the kids stayed with Thomas every week in a house he rented near the family’s Hollywood Hills home.

Thomas later showed that the separation is not his idea. It hurt so much that he had to fall to his knees. However, he was still “pulled and yelled at for a happier life” because of the divorce.

Raising their family is not an easy job, especially after they have a son.

After Gonzales left Thomas, he met an art dealer Georgiana Bischoff. They began immediately and married in November 1994, just a year after his divorce from Gonzales became final.

The actor’s children also seem to accept his new relationship immediately, as Richard Jr is Thomas’ best man, and the triplets are bridesmaids.

Now, Thomas and Bischoff have been married for almost three decades, and he’s not shy when it comes to his partner. He once said to marry the most honest and straightforward person.

Given that Bischoff already had two children from a previous relationship, reconciling their family was not easy, especially after having their son, Montana, in 1996. Fortunately, they did. have successfully made it through life’s complexities and are a big, happy family.

Thomas also shared parts of parenting advice, including that parents shouldn’t try to make their children like them. Instead, they should give them enough freedom to grow into who they are.

Currently, Thomas is still active in the entertainment industry and is expected to work alongside Sandra Bullock in “The Unforgivable.” What a long and successful career!
