Wake, Durham Counties, part of Central NC Severe Thunderstorm Watch

RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) – The CBS 17 Storm Team has declared the remainder of Thursday a Weather Aler Day with a risk of severe storms to hit the area.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for much of central North Carolina through 9 p.m. Thursday.
According to forecasters, the severe weather warning means favorable conditions for the development of severe thunderstorms.
At least one severe thunderstorm warning was issued in the triangle on Thursday afternoon.
There is a small risk of severe storms that could include damaging gusts of wind and large hail, the National Weather Service said.
The watch covers Chatham, Durham, Granville, Harnett, Henderson, Hoke, Lee, Moore, Orange, Person, Vance and Wake counties.
A severe thunderstorm is a storm that produces hail 1 inch or more in diameter and/or winds of 58 mph or more.
The National Weather Service also said the dangerous heat will continue through Friday, with heat indexes up to 107 degrees. After a cooldown this weekend, dangerous mid-week heat is expected again next week.
