Wake County man sexually assaulted 8-year-old boy over several months: sheriff’s office

RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) — A 69-year-old Wake County man is being held on $3 million bail after he was arrested Tuesday and charged with child sex crimes involving an 8-year-old, the report said Sheriff’s Office with.

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office said investigators were first alerted to the sexual assault of Sydney George Reed last month.

The victim’s mother reported that Reed inappropriately touched the child, the sheriff’s office said.

“During an investigation by medical experts, it was determined that Reed had assaulted her on multiple occasions,” Sheriff’s Office spokesman Eric Curry said in a release.

An investigation found Reed sexually assaulted the 8-year-old from December to May, the sheriff’s office said.

Reed and the child’s family knew each other prior to the offenses, the sheriff’s office said.

“The Wake County Sheriff’s Office takes this type of crime very seriously,” said Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker. “I applaud the hard work of our criminal investigation department in taking these individuals into custody. There is no case more important than ensuring that those who violate the innocence of young people are brought to justice.”

Reed was arrested at his home outside of Apex, court records show.

He was charged with three counts of indecent liberties with a child and two counts of statutory sex offenses by an adult.
