Violence erupts as shootings target child DOUBLES and girl, 6, stabbed as she tried to hide under bed covers

According to authorities, nearly twice as many children were shot in New York City in 2022 as at the same time last year.

The surge in violence includes the stabbing death of a six-year-old girl who was reportedly trying to hide under the covers when she and her mother were attacked at their Bronx home.

The aunt of the murdered six-year-old Rozara Estevez described the increase in violence in her city as “disgusting” in an interview. FoxNews.

On March 5, 26-year-old Gabrielle Muniz and her daughter were found dead at their Bronx home.

According to the NYPD, the two were killed by Muniz’s boyfriend, Caleb Duberry, who was not Estevez’s father.

Police entered the Bronx home for a social check and found Estevez dead in her bed. Police also removed three knives, the potential murder weapons, from the scene.

Also on March 6, Durberry’s body was discovered in an apartment just a mile from the scene.

NYPD reported that he appeared to have committed suicide upon hearing police officers approaching.

Before her death, Muniz was enrolled in pharmacology school and was scheduled to graduate in September.

“My daughter was an incredible person,” said Yanik Rocha, Muniz’s mother People Magazine. “She was a single mother with no help from her father. She was a hard worker and an inspiration to everyone.”

Rocha believes Durberry killed Muniz in a fit of rage for ending their relationship.

Durberry had a history of criminal violence and was on probation at the time of the murder. He had been arrested in the past for assault, robbery and possession of weapons.

Estevez’s death was considered New York’s first child murder of 2022, making the child murder count lower than at this time last year.

However, child shootings are on the rise. “As of March 15, 24 children were shot since the beginning of the year, compared to the 13 reported during the same period in 2021.” FoxNews reported.

Children have been shot in incidents of gang violence and all around senseless violence.

New York Mayor Eric Adams says the city needs to do better.

“We must stand up, save the children who are falling through the cracks upriver,” he said in one statement. “We must rescue them before they are swept away by the rivers of violence.”

On January 19, an 11-month-old girl was shot in the face in the Bronx while she was in a car with her mother. The shooter fought with someone else and accidentally shot the girl. The child is expected to survive.

In March, a three-year-old girl was shot and killed as she left a daycare center in Brooklyn with her father. Police suspect the shooter had another target.

A seven-year-old boy was also shot dead in another false-target shooting in Coney Island in January.

In another case, security videos show a young boy being attacked and shot at the Shepherd Avenue subway station in Brooklyn.

Muniz’s family set up a GoFundMe for Muniz and Estevez’s funeral expenses.

“Thank you again to those who are sharing and donating! My sister was so special! Rozara was a light on this earth! I still hate the past tense,” Giselle wrote of her Facebook site. “They are both amazing little women and I am so proud to have been Gabrielle’s sister and Rozara’s Titi. Please share and donate if you can.”
