Fans of the comedy HORRIFIED have criticized Jimmy Carr after the star performed a “disgusting” Holocaust joke on the new Netflix indie show.

Comedian, 49 years old, issued a “trigger warning” to the audience at the start of the hour-long His Dark Materials Special.

In the broadcast on Christmas Day, he spoke of “six million Jewish lives lost” in horror.

As for his breakthrough, he said there was a “positive side” – the deaths of thousands of gypsies at the hands of the Nazis.

Carr, a father of one, admitted before the show that some of the jokes were “career-ending”.

And his remarks have sparked outrage, with campaigners and viewers alike venting vileness.

One viewer wrote: “It is estimated that around 75% of Europe’s Roma and Roma population are murdered during the Holocaust.

“Put Jimmy Carr on the air and cancel all his projects at once.”

Another joke branded “evil”.

‘EVERYONE’S HAPPY’

“Absolutely disgusting. I know we joke about it, but we have a serious problem with comedy,” they said.

The clip has since gone viral on social media – and thousands of people are speaking online.

The Traveler Movement – a charity that supports the UK travel community – said: “This is truly disturbing and goes beyond humorous.

“We need all of your support in calling for this issue.”

Hope Not Hate, an anti-fascist and anti-racism advocacy group, also condemned the comedian’s joke on Friday.

In a tweet, they said: “Comedy is a great tool for progressive change and it’s a shame that Jimmy Carr decided to use his platform to celebrate the murder of one of the most marginalized groups in the world. society.”

The Auschwitz Memorial urged Carr to “learn about the fate of the approximately 23,000 Roma and Sinti deported to Auschwitz” in a tweet to their 1.2 million followers.

And Olivia Marks-Woldman OBE – CEO of Holocaust Memorial Day – also hit members of the audience.

“We were absolutely appalled by Jimmy Carr’s comments about the persecution … and appalled that the laughter followed his remarks,” she said.
