Uvalde, Texas school shooting victims: shooter’s grandmother discharged from hospital

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — More than a month after the shocking Uvalde School massacre, the killer’s 66-year-old grandmother has been released from the hospital.

The University Hospital in San Antonio announced via Twitter on Tuesday morning that the woman had been discharged. A 10-year-old girl, who is still receiving medical treatment, was taken from serious condition to good condition, according to hospital officials.

The grandmother was shot in the face at her home on May 24. The shooting happened before her grandson drove to nearby Robb Elementary School, killing 19 children and two teachers, authorities said.

Uvalde High School student Salvador Ramos allegedly bought two assault rifles just days after turning 18 and used them to carry out the second-worst school shooting in U.S. history — all within eight days, authorities said.

The massacre and a string of new mass killings across the US have reignited debate about gun laws, school safety and how to stop the violence.
