Uvalde School shooting: Houston woman says her 11-year-old niece was injured by fragments of a bullet that struck a classmate

UVALDE, Texas (KTRK) – The tragedy affecting our neighbors in Uvalde, Texas is also affecting Houston residents after a woman told ABC13 that her niece was one of the injured victims.

Blanca Rivera, who lives in Houston, said her niece was a student at Robb Elementary School, where the Uvalde massacre took place.

Rivera is still trying to get all the details about what happened in her niece’s classroom.

Previously, she said she knew the suspected shooter, Salvador Ramos, walked into the classroom and opened fire.

Rivera said her niece’s boyfriend was shot and her niece was hit by shrapnel. The niece remains in the hospital.

Despite this being such a terrifying experience, at this point the 11-year-old’s family is just grateful that she is okay.

“She’s like another daughter to me, so it makes me very nervous and anxious. You are so far away. It’s not like I’m there. ‘ Rivera said.
