Up, Up and Away: Soar through the Coachella Valley in a hot air balloon

The hot air balloon presents a breathtaking display of Mother Earth’s vast desert from new heights.
“It was just a beautiful flight,” said Steve Wilkinson, co-owner and pilot of Fantasy Balloon Flight. “We can see the Salton Sea at the end of the valley and the windmills at the top.”
As a hot air balloon pilot for more than 40 years with 6,700 flights, Wilkinson says each launch is a new experience.
“The wind changes, the direction changes and your passengers change too,” he added.
Wilkinson prides himself on sharing his breathtaking vision from above to countless first-time adventures.
“It feels like you’re floating – like clouds,” said Gladys Sim-Avergonzado, who experienced the first hot air balloon ride.
Passenger Darrel Kammeyer explained: “When you start to take off, you feel it – like going up an elevator shaft.
“You’re a human drone; that’s the only way I can explain it,” said passenger Susan Kammeyer.
Wilkinson says that hot air ballooning in the valley is like three-dimensional sailing.
“You don’t feel up, down, forward or backward,” he describes. “It’s quiet; it’s peaceful.”
