Uninsured driver GUILTY in the death of an 18-day-old boy who was killed in his stroller on his first ever outing

A DRIVER was found guilty today in the death of an 18-day-old boy who died after plowing into the tot’s pram.
James Paul Davis, 35, was driving at twice the speed limit of 50mph when he crashed into Ciaran Leigh Morris on his first ever outing.
Dad Camaron Morris was heard screaming “You Just Killed My Son” when the stroller was pinned against a shop wall.
He and partner Codie Holyman also yelled “the baby, the baby” as the horror unfolded.
Davis has now been found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Jurors heard he climbed the curb in Walsall, West Mids, after being run over by a white Ford B-Max.
The uninsured driver fled the scene before telling a passerby he had “killed a baby” and was “going to go down for a long time”.
Wolverhampton Crown Court heard he then called police, claiming he passed out at the wheel after suffering a coughing fit.
Witness Dean Athersmith told the court how he heard Davis call his girlfriend after the Easter Sunday accident last year.
He said: “[Davis] said: “I just ran over someone, I have to call my wife, I’m going down for a long time.”
“I didn’t want to give him my phone but I put the phone number in my phone. The number just rang and then he tried again and a woman answered.
“He said to her, ‘I’m really sorry I ran over a baby, I killed it, please take care of my baby,’ which led me to believe he had a child.
“When he hung up, I asked him why he left the scene, he said, ‘They’re after me.’
“It was like he wanted me to stay with him but I told him I had to go and he ran off.”
Davis was arrested at his girlfriend’s house because he “wanted to see my baby before I go.”
He said to a police officer: “A baby, for heaven’s sake. I’m sorry baby
Bodycam footage played to the jury showed him telling officers he “did not intentionally kill anyone.”
James Curtis, QC, Prosecutor, said the driver was “perfectly fit, powerfully built and clear enough to make up an excuse”.
Tests showed he had cannabis in his system, but it was below the legal limit, sources said.
Ciaran was hospitalized but died from head and body injuries just hours later.
Mum Codie suffered a broken collarbone and a bruised foot in the accident and has constant back pain, jurors heard.

Davis, of Bloxwich, West Mids, denied causing the death by dangerous driving, causing the death while uninsured and causing the death by careless driving.
He will be sentenced today.
