Unexpected hidden meaning behind Domino’s Pizza logo revealed

DOMINO’S Pizza is one of the most popular restaurant chains worldwide, but what customers may find surprising is the meaning behind the company’s signature logo.

The multinational pizza company was founded by Tom Monaghan and his brother, James, in 1960 in Michigan.

The brothers took over the operation of a local pizzeria, DomiNick’s, owned by Dominick DeVarti.

In 1965, Tom bought two more restaurants, which is also the time when the world famous company was born.

Tom wanted to establish a brand by sharing the same brand across all three pizzerias, but DeVarti wouldn’t allow him to use DomiNick’s name.

Tom said the idea to name the restaurant Domino’s came from a pizza delivery man.

“One day, an employee came back from delivering a pizza and said, ‘I have our names! Domino’s!’ I said, ‘That’s great!’ said Tom CNN in 2003.

Inspired by the company’s new name, the first logo was born shortly after.

“I’ve never heard of Domino’s pizza before. It’s Italian, and we could use the domino symbol,” added Tom.

The logo consists of two parts, the upper part is a red domino with three dots, and the lower part is a blue domino with the name of the restaurant.

The dominos are placed horizontally, one above the other.

Dominoes have three dots because they represent the three restaurants where it all began.

Tom plans to add a new dot every time a new restaurant opens; However, the idea became unviable as his business blossomed.

The owner explained the three-dot idea to CNN, “I decided to put three dots on Domino’s because we have three stores, and every time we add a store, we add a dot.

“You can see I wasn’t thinking of a national chain back then,” said Tom.

Over the years, the Domino’s logo has changed several times; however, the company’s dominos signature remains intact.
