LVIV, Ukraine (Reuters) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday a child died of dehydration in the besieged Ukrainian city of Mariupol, which has been without water, electricity or heating for days.

“In 2022, before dehydration,” Zelenskyy said in a video address, comparing the humanitarian crisis related to the Russian bombing of Ukrainian cities to the crisis caused by the Nazi invasion during World War II.

The child’s death could not be immediately independently confirmed. Moscow is calling its actions in Ukraine a “special military operation” to disarm its neighbor and arrest leaders it calls “neo-Nazis.” She denies attacking civilians.
