UAE will move weekends to Saturday and Sunday from next year

NS United Arab Emirates will move weekends to Saturdays and Sundays from next year, it announced.

Traditionally, but on the weekend inside Bay status, including Abu Dhabi and Dubai, falls on Friday and Saturday.

But from January 1, 2022, it will be moved so that the weekend begins on Friday afternoon and ensures the country’s economy is in line with global markets and Western schedules.

This decision will make the UAE one of the few places in the Middle East to operate according to Western time instead of the traditional Sunday-Thursday business week.

Under the new rules, government employees will work half a day on Friday, the traditional Muslim holy day, then off Saturday and Sunday, officials said.

Private industry and schools are likely to follow, as they did in 2006 when the week changed from Saturday to Wednesday – a Muslim working week followed in some countries Islam, such as Iran and Afghanistan.

The Emirati government hailed the decision as “the first country in the world to adopt a national working week shorter than the five-day global workweek” – a reference to Friday becoming only half a day.

“The extended weekend is part of the UAE government’s efforts to promote work-life balance and enhance social welfare,” the statement added. UAE will move weekends to Saturday and Sunday from next year
